Cleevely Group’s new EV training increases technician confidence

Technicians who attended independent EV specialist Cleevely Group’s first ever ‘At Ease With EV’ training, held in central Cheltenham, called the course a ‘game-changer’.

Cleevely Group, which services and repairs electric vehicles (EVs), launched its new training course to build the confidence of technicians who have IMI Level 2, 3 or 4 qualifications but do not regularly have the opportunity to develop EV skills in their workshop to practice.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn from the best,” said Sean Savage of Springwell Motors in West Yorkshire, after taking the course earlier this month.

“The tasks we were given mimic what you would get in your own workshop. It gave us the certainty that we can work on electric vehicles and that we should not shy away from them. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to embrace EV.”

Participants in the hands-on training took part in a wide range of hands-on activities with a 2018 Nissan Leaf and a Tesla Model Y Performance.

Topics covered included lockouts, charging issues, testing and repairing high-voltage batteries, EV maintenance, common problems, and an in-depth demonstration of Tesla’s service mode.

“We aim to build the confidence of technicians who do not regularly have the opportunity to practice EV skills in their workshop,” said Cleevely Group. “It is remarkable to witness the light bulb moment when engineers realize that working on electric vehicles is not as intimidating as they once thought.”

The next training ‘At Ease With EV’ will take place on Saturday, July 20. There are now a limited number of places available to reserve. The course will be repeated on Saturday October 12.

Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis for just £295 + VAT per participant. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, along with a certificate of participation – which will count towards CPD.
