Officials of the NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the agency implementing the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, said on Saturday that the operation of Namo Bharat trains will remain suspended on Sunday and will not be available at Muradnagar, Modinagar ( south) and Modinagar (north) stations.

In an official statement, NCRTC said the services have been suspended for “system upgrades and testing readiness for the upcoming expansion of services. Train services from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot will operate as per schedule.”

NCRTC officials familiar with the matter said the decision was taken as the agency planned to connect the existing 34-km network from Sahibabad to Modinagar (north) with Meerut (south) station.

Once the new station becomes operational, the RRTS section will extend to 42 km from the existing 34 km. Further, it will also serve a large number of passengers from Meerut.

The 17 km RRTS section was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20, 2023. This section includes the five stations Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot.

The second stretch of 17 km, comprising Muradnagar, Modinagar (south) and Modinagar (north), was also inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on March 8 through video conferencing.
