How Ogun gas tanker explosion killed one and destroyed vehicles

On Saturday, one person was confirmed dead in a gas tanker explosion in Ita Osin, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, who disclosed this to our correspondent on phone, said four vehicles were destroyed in the inferno.

A gas tanker truck then reportedly suffered a brake failure, lost control and hit the roadside culvert before bursting into flames, while the fire engulfed four other cars around the accident scene.

Okpe said the deceased was a motor boy of the gas-laden tanker truck.

The tragic incident is said to have occurred along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway at around 5:30 p.m.

Okpe said: “The rescue team just confirmed the incident to me. The accident involved a Daf truck carrying petrol, which lost control and rammed into the culvert, after which it burst into flames.

“Four vehicles are said to have been burnt and the only death recorded is that of the engine boy of the petrol-laden truck. I am still waiting for further information.”

Men of the Ogun State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service Department, Federal Road Safety Corps and security operatives were said to have been on the scene to carry out rescue operations.
