Mcd commissioner: Lg wants all powers to Mcd commissioner: Aap | Delhi News

New Delhi: Hitting back at Lieutenant Governor, Aam Aadmi Party said in a press statement on Saturday that LG wanted all powers of the Delhi Municipal Corporation to be given to the commissioner working under him so that he can exercise his own will. The party said MCD had itself passed a resolution in January to bring all the powers of the standing committee under the House Civil Body, but LG wanted to “paralyze” it. The AAP statement said: “Increasing the financial powers of the Commissioner in respect of works worth more than Rs 5 crore will not make him accountable to the elected House of the civic body.” It added: “The BJP people were illegally appointed as councilors by LG due to which the standing committee could not be formed. LG should answer why the MCD Commissioner has not tabled a single proposal worth more than Rs 5 crore in the House of Civic Body from January till date. The party said several MCD projects had been stalled in the past few months as the standing committee was able to do so. are not established. It said the MCD commissioner’s financial powers were limited to approving the contracts of up to Rs 5 crore to ensure that he or she did not enjoy “unbridled power” and remained accountable to the chosen company. To resolve the issue, AAP, which enjoys a majority in the 250-member MCD with 134 councillors, said the House had passed a resolution to take over the powers of the standing committee so that projects above Rs 5 crore could be adopted and implemented. “LG should explain why despite this proposal After it was passed in January, the MCD Commissioner has not yet placed a single project worth more than Rs 5 crore at the MCD House. If LG wants the stalled works to be completed, instructions should be issued to the MCD Commissioner to place such projects before the House of Representatives,” AAP said in the statement. The party said if MCD’s budget could be passed by the House, why should LG do so? object to tenders worth more than Rs 5 crore taken by it? AAP alleged that since the MCD commissioner reports to LG, and if the financial powers were vested in the commissioner, this would allow LG to run MCD according to its arbitrary wishes. “What is the meaning of MCD elections in such a case?” asked AAP.AAP said LG should direct the MCD commissioner that any tender for works exceeding Rs 5 crore should first be placed before the House for approval. In this way, the House will function smoothly and the responsibility of the commissioner to the elected councilors will continue, it added.
