Friday brings isolated storm chances before cooperative weekend weather

ROANOKE, Va. – A weaker cluster of showers and storms in the west will be enough for isolated rain showers after 7 or 8 am on Friday.

FutureTracker – Friday 11am

Once that clears, we may be able to see some rays of sunshine. That said, we won’t reach the 80s like we did Thursday afternoon.

Any break in the sun could destabilize the atmosphere, resulting in more storms between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Although they are small, they can pack a punch in high winds and/or hail.

FutureTracker – Friday 6pm

That threat is mainly near/south of the Roanoke Valley.

The front responsible for this variable activity will be south of us on Saturday, resulting in mostly dry weather. This is good news for the Blue Ridge Marathon Saturday!

Next Sunday a low pressure area will move along the front. Recent forecast data is pushing this moisture further south, meaning the only chance of rain will be south of the Roanoke Valley on Sunday evening.

Most of the rain will remain south of the area Sunday evening

It will be cooler, though, and that cooling trend will follow us into the mornings of next week.

Next Monday and Tuesday mornings will be in the 30s and 40s. Localized frost may occur in parts of the New River Valley and the Highlands.
