Indo Count acquires American home fashion brand Wamsutta for $10.25 million

Indo Count, India’s largest manufacturer and exporter of bedding, has acquired international homewear brand Wamsutta from American Beyond, Inc.

A BSE filing stated that this acquisition was made on an all-cash basis for $10.25 million.

“This acquisition, which was completed on April 18, 2024, strengthens Indo Count’s brand portfolio and increases its position in the premium market segment,” the company said in a statement.

The brand was founded in 1846 by Wamsutta Mills in Bedford, Massachusetts. Springs Industries acquired the brand in the 1980s and then sold it to the now-defunct retail chain Bed Bath & Beyond in 2012. Over the years, the brand became a popular national brand in the US for bedline products, among other things.

Mohit Jain, Executive Vice Chairman of Indo Count, said, “Wamsutta – with its 178-year brand history – resonates strongly in the market. We will explore multiple distribution channels to reach Wamsutta’s core consumer and also introduce a whole new generation to the exceptional quality and luxury of the Wamsutta brand.”

“Our strategic vision is to leverage our operational capabilities to enhance the brand value proposition and realize potential global brand value. Combined with Indo Count’s global reach, the brand will be catapulted to new heights and represents a significant milestone towards our expansion strategy.,” he added.
