Yelm’s first “Color Fun Run”

The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department and YARD are looking to kick off the summer by hosting an inaugural Color Fun Run, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Yelm City Park. Each participant will receive a white T-shirt to wear during the run, along with some “fun swag.” Registration costs $40. To register, go to

Yelm farmers market

The Yelm Farmers Market 2024 takes place from 10am to 3pm, Saturday, June 15, at 206 McKenzie Ave., near City Park. The event will feature twenty or more vendors offering farmers, artisans, bakers, beekeepers, leather workers and more, plus a children’s program and special events. Rainier Saturday market

The Rainier Saturday Market takes place from 10am to 3pm, 206 Binghampton St. SE, near Wilkowski Park, on Saturdays through September. Among the items offered are custom blankets, vintage clothing, horse items, paintings and other works of art, birdhouses, planters, doll clothes, soil tests, seedlings and more.

Tuesday June 18

Blood Factory Northwest Blood Drive

Bloodworks Northwest will be conducting a blood drive on Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19 from 9am to 4pm in the main event space of the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St., Yelm. People must be 16 years or older to donate blood and must eat a hearty meal and drink plenty of fluids before donating. Appointments are required. Register at Type O blood is mainly needed.

Prairie Days Parade

Beginning Saturday, June 22 at 9 a.m., the annual Prairie Days Parade will begin near Prairie Park Street Southeast in Yelm and march downtown toward Yelm City Park. This year’s parade is called ‘Party Like It’s 1924’ in honor of Yelm’s centennial. The event, organized by the Yelm Chamber of Commerce, is the starting signal for a whole weekend full of fun activities in Yelm.

Prairie Days ‘Touch a Truck’

The second annual Prairie Days Touch a Truck event returns from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at Yelm City Park, as the City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department welcomes Prairie Days visitors to check out “large trucks and other vehicles.” explore. The event is free and children must be accompanied by an adult during the event.

Party on the Prairie: Centennial Celebration Concert

The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department will host its free “Party on the Prairie: Centennial Celebration Concert” at Yelm City Park, 108 SE McKenzie Ave., on Saturday, June 22 from 5-9 p.m. The event will feature country music. artist and songwriter Adam Craig will headline. The Hogue and Moore Band will open for Craig at the free concert. People are invited to enjoy food and drinks from a selection of vendors or bring their own drinks. There will also be a beer garden during the event.

Fourth Annual Charity Mushball Tournament

The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department will host the fourth annual charity mushball tournament at Longmire Park, 16820 Canal Road SE, on Sunday, June 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration for the event is open. Each team must have at least four women and four men on the roster.

Movies in the park

The annual Movies in the Park series at Longmire Park in Yelm returns on Saturday, June 29, with activities beginning at the venue at 5 p.m. Doubtfire,” starts at 9:30 p.m. The film is rated PG-13. A concession stand will be open at the park to sell snacks during the event.

Rainier’s all-American anniversary

Celebrate the 4th of July in advance from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 at Wilkowski Park in Rainier. The family-friendly event is hosted by “We Love Rainier WA” and features a variety of vendors, several food trucks, games and activities for all ages, and a car show.

Horse trails Sports obstacle course

Equine Trail Sports presents its Frontier Park Obstacle Course on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 at Frontier Park, 21718 Meridian Ave E., Graham. The Saturday event will feature a mounted obstacle course, while the Sunday activity will feature both hand-held and mounted obstacle courses. Participants can choose the challenge level that suits them and their horse for each obstacle. Fifth Annual Nisqually Valley Barbecue Rally

The fifth annual Nisqually Valley Barbecue Rally is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at Yelm City Park. The annual event is one of Yelm’s most popular attractions, drawing thousands of people to the park every year. This year’s entertainment will include live bands and performances, along with a pie eating competition for young people and adults. The amateur barbecue competition returns; a beer, cider and wine garden will be included; and there will be activities for children.

Seventh annual Jazz in the Park

Enjoy a family-friendly evening with a “fun atmosphere” from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Yelm City Park, Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3, as the seventh annual Jazz in the Park event returns to Yelm. Admission to the event is free and spectators can enjoy live jazz bands. There will be a beer and wine garden along with several food vendors.

Roy September Rodeo

The Roy Pioneer Rodeo returns on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1 to provide entertainment for attendees over Labor Day weekend. Those interested can look forward to drill team competitions, roping events, bull riding, broncs, cow milking and more. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the gate.
