Amazon confirms new Tomb Raider series with beloved …

Tomb Raider has hit the big screen in the past, but a TV series focusing on Lara Croft and her adventures sounds great. Beloved Indiana Jones star and writing genius behind Fleabag, the great Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is going to make the dream come true.

After Netflix’s The Witcher and HBO’s The Last of Us, Tomb Raider appears to be the next video game franchise in line for a live-action TV adaptation. Prime has already proven they know what they’re doing with Fallout (and hopefully the upcoming second season!).

After three films, starring Angelina Jolie in the first two and Alicia Vikander in the most recent as Lara Croft, Tomb Raider fans can now look forward to a TV series. Prime is up to the task, and we have full confidence in them after the huge success of the Fallout adaptation. And even better, they have a great writer on their team.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge will write the show

Phoebe Waller-Bridge will bring Lara Croft to life in the film adaptation. With her comedy show Flea bag she has already proven that she can write good scripts, with an Emmy to back her up.

However, Lara Croft is not a ridiculous rom-com franchise. Lara is not here to make people laugh, but to plunder graves, guns blazing. But don’t worry: Waller-Bridge was also nominated for writing for the drama series Kill Eva. That’s actually very reassuring: she knows what she’s doing!

And the best is yet to come: Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a Tomb Raider fan herself. It’s not just a job, but a passion project.

Who plays Lara Croft in the Prime Show?

Although the show itself has been greenlit and is now picking up steam, an actress has still not been announced to play the iconic archaeologist and certified girl boss. Fans quickly threw a number of names into the ring, including Melissa Barrera or Alba Baptista. Not gonna lie, the last one definitely has her moves:

Until Prime Video comes forward, there’s really no way to know who will join Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in the ranks of live-action Lara Croft. We will keep you informed about this!

Bringing Lara Croft to life with a 90s vibe

In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, Waller-Bridger shared a few details about her love for Tomb Raider and what she has planned for the series.

One of the best parts of the adaptation is the reassurance that the author is one of us and was herself addicted to Tomb Raider in her teens. And getting back into the games during the pandemic, refreshing one’s memory, can also help with good adjustment. That’s why she was thrilled when Amazon asked her to write the show.

God, it literally felt like that teenager in me was saying, Do the right thing for her, do the right thing for Lara!

So far, it looks like Amazon made the right choice with Phoebe Waller-Bridge. But that’s not all: she also revealed a few details about what she wants to do with Tomb Raider.

She wants to “do something dangerous” and “bring back some of the ’90s vibe,” and you know what? Sounds great to me!
